2019 - 2020 STUDENTS

LKC M1, Project Head 2020

Project Aasha appealed to me as I want to benefit less developed countries, especially Nepal, where the terrain and living conditions are relatively harsher. I hope to empower the locals there through education, improve their quality of life and bring a smile upon their faces!

My hobbies are playing all kinds of sports, eating and sleeping. Other than humans, I also love furry animals!

I joined Project Aasha because I was drawn by the amount of thought that was put into making the initiative sustainable. Understanding healthcare systems in Nepal was also a rare opportunity I could not pass up on, and that motivated me to join the OCIP.

In my free time, I enjoy running and dancing!

I’m really looking forward to travelling to Nepal to experience their culture and environment. I believe it will help me better understand their needs, especially healthcare wise, and I’m excited to be able to help them in any way that I can. I am certain it will be a priceless opportunity to learn from the doctors, especially in healthcare industry outside of Singapore!

In my spare time I love to draw, as well as travel and explore new places. I also definitely can never resist a good Netflix binge session! :”)

I joined Project Aasha because I believed in the value of purposeful service as well as the power of cross-border relationships and interactions. I hope to be able to learn from the healthcare system in Nepal, gain an insight into healthcare-driven service, and be humbled by the people, sights and experiences.

I enjoy meeting new people, exploring, and embarking on unfamiliar journeys... and dancing!

Aasha piqued my interest with its focus on providing sustainable improvements to the healthcare standards of the beneficiaries in Nepal. I was inspired by the dedicated team helming the project and wanted to be a part of the cause. In joining Aasha, I also hope to learn more about healthcare systems foreign to that of Singapore and use the skills and knowledge gained to continue to serve in the future.

In my day-to-day life, I try my best to stay active through playing sports, finding cheap and good eats and find joy in drinking warm cups of coffee.

Project Aasha inspired me in the extent they would go for those in need despite the geographical inconveniences and I hope that in this trip I can continue Project Aasha’s painstakingly built reputation of providing sustainable healthcare to the Nepalese. I also hope that I can learn much from my peers and mentors and impact the lives of those in Nepal!

I love Water Polo, Basketball, Manchester United and dislike tonsillitis.

What attracted me to Aasha was how it aimed to sustainably reach out to Nepalis who may not have easy access to healthcare. We often take for granted the accessibility to quality healthcare in Singapore, but this is often not the case in many parts of the world, such as in Nepal. It is a privilege therefore to be able even play a small part in helping to bring healthcare to those who need it, and hopefully improve their quality of life in the long term.

In my free time, I enjoy a good book, music, or hanging out with friends or family. Sleep is often a good option too!

SIT Physiotherapy Year 3

Project Aasha came as an opportunity to reach out to people in Nepal, it also serves as a stepping stone in my journey as a physio student. I hope that Project Aasha would be a good learning experience and set grounds for building friendships amongst individuals.

I chose physiotherapy as study and career choice because of the profession itself, I belief that it is a meaningful and fulfilling job.

SIT Physiotherapy Year 3

Serving the community is what I love doing! It is a privilege to be able to help meet the needs of the Nepalese people as best as we can. I joined this project as I'd like to be able to contribute to bettering the lives of the people we will work with!

I enjoy the outdoors and being with my church community back home in Singapore!

SIT Physiotherapy Year 3

Hello I'm Peven, 3rd year PT student from SIT!  I joined Project Aasha as I really love experiencing different environments that require me to step out of my comfort zone as I believe that helps me to practice my skills more effectively so that I can help those in need. I also believe that whenever we step out of our comfort zones, it helps us become better individuals as we tend to be more appreciative of what we have.

I enjoy doing tons of wordsearch, listening to music and watching sitcoms.

SIT Physiotherapy Year 2

Hello, I’m Melody! I’m a physiotherapy student from SIT. I joined Project Aasha because I wanted to venture into areas that we, PT students, do not get much exposure to. It is also a good platform for us to use what we are taught in school to help those who are in need in a different environment. Also, at the same time, I want to learn how the less developed countries deliver their healthcare to their people and how they may do things differently as compared to Singapore due to lack of medical equipments or resources. It’ll definitely be beneficial for us to take away some alternatives that we will see and learn in Nepal!   I want to become a physiotherapist because we do not only treat patients for their pain, but we treat them as a person.

SIT Physiotherapy Year 2

Namaste! My name is Merwyn and I am currently a Year 2 Physiotherapy student. I believe that Project Aasha will help me to gain good perspective on the healthcare needs and situation in the Himalayas and to have a better understanding about the relevance of physiotherapy treatment for the visually-impaired people.

During my free time, I enjoy baking and learning new languages!
