Aasha’s goal to effect sustainable change through targeted measures, as well as the opportunity to work with the inspiring doctors and passionate students on the team drew me to the project.

I enjoy singing and a good game of badminton in my free time!

Bung 2017 & 2018

Project Aasha opened my eyes to the harsh reality of inaccessible healthcare, something that we easily take for granted in Singapore. What makes Project Aasha different is its heavy focus on sustainability and targeted interventions. I believe that everyone can make a difference, even if it is small as even that can make someone’s life better. Besides serving the community, I have also learnt a lot as a medical student and it is thrilling to see our project expanding as the years pass.

My hobbies are photography, travelling, sports, dancing and acapella.

I chose Aasha because I believe in giving back to society in lieu of the kindness and generosity that I received that allows me to be doing what I am doing today.

Aside from medical school, I figure skate and play sports recreationally. I also occasionally indulge in reading novels and watching Korean dramas.

I joined Project Aasha in 2017 to see how I could contribute to its efforts in promoting education and healthcare in the rural areas of Nepal.

I have a keen interest in first aid and pre-hospital care, and I volunteer with St John Singapore! I love photography too and am the trip’s photographer

Having been to Nepal in the 2017 trip, what spoke to me the most was the general inaccessibility and resource scarcity faced by the villagers residing in the mountainous regions. As a project, we aim to deliver sustainable medical aid - using the combination of health screenings and education to empower the villagers with practical skills and knowledge that can be passed on even if we are not around.

In my free time, I like to go for a run and explore new locations that I have never been to before. While I absolutely love to travel, I also enjoy being a tourist in my own country!

I joined Aasha as I strongly believe that the help provided to the local people in Nepal through the various surgical camps, health screenings and health education is extremely invaluable and meaningful.

In my free time, I enjoy playing a game of football or badminton with my friends, as well as engaging in other activities such as going for a long run or singing in a band!

SIT Physiotherapy Y3,

Bung 2018

In the past when I went for OCIP trips, they were similar the other OCIP offered by SIT, mainly involve the building of facilities and teaching the villagers. However, what made me extremely interested in Project Aasha was that it involves us doing medical-related work overseas. The main takeaway from last year’s trip was knowing how inaccessible and ill-equipped the healthcare facilities were over there, thus allowing me to better appreciate Singapore’s healthcare system.

Last year I went for Project Aasha with another classmate, Claire. This is the first-time physiotherapy students were involved in the project.
